Former Cotton Mather frontman Robert Harrison put a new band together in 2007, and their debut CD may surprise old fans. While Cotton Mather were always a little too complex to comfortably fit the restrictive "power pop" tag, their debut is an all-out explosion of eclecticism with nods to psychedelia, the blues, garage rock, and Kinks-y story-telling. Courageously debuting with a double disc, they've provided something here for everyone, with the common thread of Harrison's skillfully sculpted melodies, echo-chamber vocals, and lively arrangements.
