RECORD STORE DAY 2022

Record Store Day celebrates independent record stores by coordinating limited-edition vinyl releases and inspiring record culture festivities around the world.

How did Record Store Day begin?

In 2007, small record store owners and vinyl fans created Record Store Day to encourage the revival of vinyl records. Since its debut on April 19th 2008, Record Store Day has grown into a significant international festival. Record Store Day encourages record labels and artists to release new vinyl releases or reissue old favorites. Many of these albums are only available at independent record stores, which is why Record Store Day supports small local businesses.

What date is Record Store Day?

We will celebrate Record Store Day 2022 (and its 15th anniversary) on Saturday, April 23rd, with an excellent selection of new titles that have just been announced.

Record Store Day Shopping Tips:

1. Prepare your list in advance:

Record collectors lining up at the doors typically know which RSD releases they want. Preparing your RSD wishlist in advance is the most effective way to stay organized and avoid becoming overwhelmed in the heat of the moment.

PS: At Rock and Soul, we ordered every title on the list and we always get a good fill.

2. Call/Email record stores in advance

It is also a good idea to contact or email your local record store beforehand to ask about their anticipated RSD drop list stock. You can ask in person if you're a regular at your local shop. While not all shops will share this information, it's worth asking. It is even possible to see if they have any RSD exclusive titles on their website.

  1. Arrive early at the local record store

Be prepared to wait in line for a long time. RSD releases that are most anticipated often sell out very fast. Arrive early if you want to get your hands on the vinyl you want.

In general, there are long lines, but at Rock and Soul, we try to make sure you spend as little time waiting as possible, so you can enjoy your record shopping. We open at 8 am so come early.

  1. Follow your local record stores on social media

It's time for you to follow your local record store on social media! A lot of record shops post teasers and RSD announcements in advance, as well as flipping through their current stock. Keep an eye on their social feeds on the day of the event for photo and video updates. You may spot an item on your RSD wishlist that requires visiting another store!

  1. Meet other vinyl lovers

It's a great opportunity to meet and have a conversation with other record collectors as you wait in the RSD line. Asking who their favorite artists are or what their top targets inside the store are can be great ways to start a conversation.

RSD exclusive titles 2022

You can find all your RSD titles at our physical store Rock and Soul, at 10W 37th St, New York City, NY. At Rock and Soul, we feature over 300 titles, including Taylor Swift, Joni Mitchell, Lou Reed, John Williams, David Bowie, Bill Evans & U2, which will be exclusively available that day only at our store.

You can have an idea of what you want, but leave time and money for browsing what comes in. It’s always fun to pick up something you didn’t realize was out.
